High-Tech Approach to History
Here's a unique way to visit historical sites: Geocaching. The concept is to use GPS technology to locate a specific site, leave a token for future Geocachers and take one someone else left. A number of geocaches are cropping up at historical sites. There are a number of advantages, not to mention the obvious chance to visit someplace truly interesting and typically off the beaten path. Geocachers report on the sites, including vandalism, deteriorating conditions, etc. Many also clean sites and remove any trash and debris. Take a visit to a geocache site! There are several in Shelby County (do a search for sites near zip code 62565). One cache is at Jasper Douthit's Lithia Springs Chautauqua. Enjoy a Historic Geocache experience!
