We have received an obituary notice of W. R. Pugh, copies from the Columbus (Ohio) “News.” Mr. Pugh was a brother of Mrs. Henry Cruitt of Ridge Township, this county. He was a native of Virginia, being born in 1829 in Frederic County. During his early manhood he took an active interest in the temperance cause, writing a book which had quite a sale. At that early day he took strong ground for prohibition showing the absurdity of placing a man behind the bar for small thefts, while the rumseller who was stealing life, health and prosperity was protected in his business and let go free. The deceased wa a man of liberal education, received in his adopted state of Ohio, where he spent most of his life. He was engaged in the teacher’s profession begin superintendent of schools in Belmont County for three terms, but the last ten years was engaged in the lumber business in Columbus where he died.
