2 We have received an obituary notice of W. R. Pugh, copies from
the Columbus (Ohio) “News.” Mr. Pugh was a brother of Mrs. Henry Cruitt
of Ridge Township, this county. He was a native of Virginia, being born
in 1829 in Frederic County. During his early manhood he took an active
interest in the temperance cause, writing a book which had quite a
sale. At that early day he took strong ground for prohibition showing
the absurdity of placing a man behind the bar for small thefts, while
the rumseller who was stealing life, health and prosperity was
protected in his business and let go free. The deceased wa a man of
liberal education, received in his adopted state of Ohio, where he
spent most of his life. He was engaged in the teacher’s profession
begin superintendent of schools in Belmont County for three terms, but
the last ten years was engaged in the lumber business in Columbus where
he died.
